Person having some dry needling treatment

Dry Needling

Dry Needling is a therapeutic technique that involves inserting a very fine needle (similar to an acupuncture needle) directly into the skin and muscle. Unlike injections, no substance is delivered; the needle itself is the treatment. This technique specifically targets myofascial trigger points, which are tender, hyperirritable “knots” or palpable nodules found within tight bands of skeletal muscle.

Dry needling is a versatile treatment often incorporated into treatment plans. It is commonly used to:

  • Treat myofascial pain associated with trigger points
  • Manage chronic pain conditions
  • Address low back pain
  • Treat muscle strains
  • Manage osteoarthritis symptoms
  • Help with fibromyalgia
  • Treat tendinopathies

Benefits of Dry Needling

Dry needling can provide several benefits for patients with musculoskeletal conditions:

  1. Immediately increase pressure pain threshold
  2. Improve range of motion
  3. Decrease muscle tone
  4. Reduce pain in patients with musculoskeletal conditions

This treatment is usually considered as part of a patient’s ongoing care within the clinic. All new enquiries will first require a consultation to determine the most appropriate next steps.
