Glasgow 2026: Supporting Team Scotland and Inspiring the Next Generation of Athletes
The Commonwealth Games returns to Glasgow, bringing with them an incredible celebration of sport, determination and Scottish talent. Over the coming days, spectators will enjoy world-class competition across a wide range of sports, from athletics and swimming to cycling, gymnastics, netball and judo, as Scotland once again welcomes elite athletes from across the Commonwealth.
Here at Edinburgh Sports Injury Clinic (ESIC), we’re especially excited to follow the judo competition and cheer on one of our own patients, Sarah Adlington, as she bids for an incredible third Commonwealth Games gold medal.
Wishing Sarah Adlington Every Success
Sarah has already written her name into Commonwealth Games history.
She was part of Team Scotland’s unforgettable judo success at Glasgow 2014, winning gold in the Women’s +78kg category before returning to the top of the podium at Birmingham 2022. By defending her title, Sarah became the first judoka ever to win two Commonwealth Games gold medals, cementing her place as one of Scotland’s greatest judo athletes. This summer, she returns to Glasgow hoping to add to her Commonwealth Games career with another memorable performance on home soil.
Everyone at Edinburgh Sports Injury Clinic is incredibly proud to support Sarah as one of our patients. We know first-hand the dedication, commitment and countless hours of preparation that go into competing at the highest level, and we wish Sarah the very best as she once again represents Team Scotland.
We’d also like to extend our best wishes to the entire Team Scotland judo squad. Competing at a home Commonwealth Games is a fantastic achievement, and we hope every athlete enjoys the experience while making Scotland proud.
Elite Performance Starts Long Before Competition
Whether you’re competing for a Commonwealth medal or preparing for your first local event, success isn’t built overnight. Elite athletes understand that performance isn’t just about training harder – it’s about preparing smarter. Strength, mobility, recovery, injury prevention and rehabilitation all play vital roles in allowing athletes to perform consistently throughout the year. At Edinburgh Sports Injury Clinic, these same principles guide the care we provide to every patient. Our experienced physiotherapists help people of all ages and abilities overcome pain, recover from injury and move with greater confidence. Whether you’re returning to sport after an injury or simply looking to stay active, our goal is always the same: helping you perform at your best.
Inspired to Try a New Sport?
One of the greatest things about the Commonwealth Games is the inspiration it creates.
Every Games encourages thousands of people to try something new. You may find yourself inspired to give judo a go, join a cycling club, take up athletics, return to swimming or finally sign up for that sport you’ve always wanted to try. That’s fantastic – but it’s also important to remember that every new activity places different demands on your body. Starting too quickly, ignoring previous injuries or pushing beyond your current fitness level can often lead to preventable injuries that interrupt your progress before you’ve really begun.
