Thank you volunteers!
Every successful sports club, youth team, community session, charity event, and matchday experience has one thing in common – volunteers.
During Volunteers’ Week, we want to recognise and celebrate the incredible people who give their time, energy, and passion to support sport and young people across our communities. From grassroots football coaches and athletics helpers to physios just like us, parents, first aiders, kit organisers, drivers, referees, and event staff, so much of sport simply would not happen without the people working behind the scenes. At Edinburgh Sports Injury Clinic, we see the positive impact of this support every day.
As an independent physiotherapy clinic established in 2003, we work closely with active individuals, young athletes, sports clubs, and families across Edinburgh and the Lothians, helping people recover from injury, build confidence, and return to the activities they love. As a result, patient safety and trust are at the heart of everything we do. Whether you’re attending for rehabilitation, pain management, or ongoing care, you deserve complete confidence in the professionals supporting your or your loved one’s health journey. That’s why we are proud to operate with full Disclosure Scotland accreditation, with all of our therapists who work with vulnerable groups approved through the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme.
Sport offers young people especially far more than competition. It builds resilience, confidence, teamwork, friendships, and lifelong healthy habits. Volunteers make those opportunities possible. Across the UK, volunteers continue to play a vital role in coaching, officiating, mentoring, event management, and supporting athlete wellbeing. Organisations involved in student and community sport regularly describe volunteers as the “heartbeat” of their sporting ecosystems.
As a physiotherapy clinic, we are proud to play our part behind the scenes too. Supporting recovery, rehabilitation, injury prevention, and long-term movement health allows young athletes and active people to continue participating safely in sport and everyday life. At ESIC, our focus has always been on helping people move better, recover stronger, and understand the root cause of injury – not simply treating symptoms.
Volunteers’ Week is not only about recognising hours given – it is about recognising impact. The early mornings, late evenings, encouragement from the sidelines, lifts to training, rehabilitation support, fundraising efforts, and countless unseen tasks all contribute to opportunities that can shape young lives.
So this week, we simply want to say thank you.
* Thank you to every coach.
* Thank you to every parent volunteer.
* Thank you to every helper, organiser, referee, therapist, medic, and mentor.
* Thank you to everyone who gives their time to support sport and young people.
From all of us at Edinburgh Sports Injury Clinic, congratulations and thank you for everything you do behind the scenes to keep sport moving forward.
